Jerzy Jankowski (pseud. Jerzy Szum, Yeży Yankowski) (1887-1941) –

Polish poet and publicist, pioneer of Polish futurism in poetry.

Jankowski expressed his fascination with the city and the development of technology, using phonetic spelling, reaching out to the language of everyday speech and street language. The volume of poetry published by Jerzy Jankowski contained, in addition to the futuristic poems, the rest of his artistic output.

Since 1921 he suffered from a mental illness preceded by alcoholism, which forced him to retire from public life; For the rest of his life he was staying in a psychiatric facility in Vilnius. He died tragically during the German occupation of Vilnius (June 24, 1941). Within the framework of the Nazi Action T4 was, like many patients for the insane, killed by the Nazis with a shot of phenol in the heart.
