GASZYŃSKA ZUZIA no title [olej na płótnie] 1

Zuzanna Gaszyńska - absolwentka Wydziału Malarstwa na Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Warszawie. Podczas studiów została wielokrotnie wyróżniona, między innymi reprezentując Akademię na wystawie w Rydze w 2014 roku, oraz biorąc udział w niemieckim Förderprojekt Junge Kunst 2015. W 2015 roku zdobyła główną nagrodę w konkursie Siemens Art Prize. Zajmuje się malarstwem olejnym na płótnie, inspiruje ją przede wszystkim kultura orientu, a tematyka jej prac wiąże ze sobą idee buddyzmu z własnymi przeżyciami wewnętrznymi. Tworzy cykle obrazów podejmując temat samoświadomości wywołanej kontemplacją i posługując się symboliką węża.

I attempt to take up the topic of self-consciousness induced by contemplation. I think that being in the presence of the work, molding it with the help of ritual activities, you can get in contact with a version of self closer to some universal truths. Immersing and emanating are words that guide to me during painting, but are also keys to interpretation.

Most of my paintings are depicting, they show an actual event, a significant place or an emotional state. An imposition of another reality, the symbolic dimension, is a step taken in the direction of surrealism. The symbol of the serpent, which is used to express natures of thoughts, eclipses most of the space on the images. It is as overwhelming and elusive as a nucleus of an idea, causes inability to participate in own life. At times, I understand such self-awareness as spying on oneself. Even though in such moments the mind seems to go further, creating new paths, it does so at the expense of reducing the symptoms of vitality and loss of “citizenship” in the current moment.

I draw inspiration from the culture of Orient. The subject of my work combines my own perception and experiences with visual motives and symbols found in the Buddhist tradition. In the past years I have traveled around Asia and the journeys have contributed to the creation of most of my oil on canvas paintings.

During the past year i have been using acrylics concurrently, working with Chang Bui.
